cottontail cupcakes!

Here it is, my excuse for buying a cotton candy machine...

the cottontail cupcake!!

Like I said earlier, I had a vision.

Here's how it developed:

cupcake + toothpick + cakeball (a donut hole would work too)

fluffy white frosting

edible candy grass = whiskers

large blue nonpareil = eyes

pink decorating gel = mouth

and don't forget the paper ears

Hi there, cutie. You just need a fluffy tail...

a pink and orange easter

{with a side of bunnies, chicks, & candy dots}

This year we celebrated Easter all weekend. Saturday, the little miss had her friend over for some cottontailed bunny cupcakes and confetti egg fun, and on Sunday we had our traditional dinner.

My theme did start out as pink but eventually I added orange, one of my favorite color combos! I wanted it to be pretty and bright, but also whimsical.

I decided to make homemade candy button placemats that doubled as a table runner when put all together. Yes, that's a lot of dots! 1309 to be exact. It was actually much simpler than it seems. After dinner, you could just pick at your placemat for dessert!

I finally found an excuse to get a small cotton candy machine for home; I had to complete my vision of a cotton candy "cottontail" on a white bunny cupcake, I mean, c'mon, let nothing come between me and my easter vision!

Throw in some fuzzy chicks, more colored rice, lovely orange burlap, bunnies made out of blown eggs, sparkly pink carrots hung from the light shade, strings of tissue paper tulips hung from the ceiling, some vintage easter nostalgia, wheatgrass planted in little porcelain eggs, pretty blossoms, and presto! our easter table(s) came together!

a dozen donuts... april fools!

This morning the mister found a bakery box on the counter.

I told him it was a dozen donuts. A nice Sunday surprise.

He opened the box to find mini "donuts".

April Fools!

Honey, who shrunk the donuts?

I was inspired by something I saw in the Disney family fun magazine while at a friend's house:

Frost a round piece of cereal, like cheerios or apple jacks, and top with sprinkles.

Very funny!

gold at the bottom of the rainbow {cake} and the rest of our st. paddy's day

The little miss may not have caught a leprechaun, but it was fun to try! We know there was one in the house though; she had a green lip print on her forehead when she woke up and all throughout the day things kept turning green! As for the rest of our St. Patrick's Day, there were rainbows in all forms, lots of green, and of course, gold!

I have been wanting to make this rainbow cake forever! I didn't follow the recipe exactly, I put whipped cream in between my layers and used a homemade vanilla frosting instead of a lemon buttercream. The cake is super moist and delicious. Although I had to get the idea out of my head that I wasn't eating play-dough every time I took a bite! Chocolate gold coins graced the bottom of the cake...gold at the bottom of the rainbow!

A crepe paper rainbow and a pot of gold were found in the bathroom.

our leprechaun trap is set!

lt8.jpg

Before the little miss went to bed tonight she set up her leprechaun trap that she made. A leprechaun trap?

Yes. A leprechaun trap.

What will we do if we catch a leprechaun?

Well, make him tell us where he's hidden his gold, of course!

All of this stems from a book we've been reading called The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing.  To be honest, I had never heard of all this trickery and leprechaun catching before, but I sure do like it. It's so fun!

We decided to model our trap after one we saw in the book which uses an empty tissue box. I covered it and let Clementine decorate it with things leprechauns like: green, shamrocks, rainbows, and gold! I made a little ladder and we covered the hole with a piece of tissue paper and set two gold coins on top to hopefully lure in a little leprechaun. If he's not careful, he'll fall in the hole and we'll catch him!

I can't tell you how many times Clementine has walked her little fingers up the ladder making a "doo-dee-doo" sound and then plops her hand on the coins and into the hole. Then she laughs a hardy laugh. Or how many times since Tuesday, when we made this trap, that she's checked to see if a leprechaun was in the box!

P.S. check out the BEST leprechaun trap! A cake!
