Eggnog like the Griswold’s

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

moose-mugAhhhh, nothing makes holiday eggnog taste better than drinking it from a moose mug!

I ordered these last year from canadianmoose.com.

It makes for the Hap-hap-happiest Christmas…

Making Stockings!

Monday, December 21st, 2009

New handmade stockings are in order this year. I made Clementine’s first because it was the most fun. Felt, hot glue, assorted sparkly trims, a great idea and an old pair of holiday fur-trimmed knee socks helped me to make this pepperminty sweet stocking for my little lady.

So cute! One down. Three to go.

Panettone. Not just a holiday treat for you…

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Apparently Weezie was mad that all she got for her birthday was a swirly beef tendon and a plate of whipped cream. I guess she really wanted something along the lines of a bread loaded with sugar, butter, citrus and raisins. For when we returned home, she greeted us with kisses and a sweetly familiar, holiday scented beard. It was then I looked down to find this freshly baked $20 panettone from the Pearl Bakery on our living room rug. I thought it was safe neatly packed in the priority mail box waiting to be sent to grandma’s house. I was wrong.

Happy Birthday Weezie!

These bone shaped gingerbread cookies are for the humans. Her treat is coming soon!

She can start on this…

Oregon Hazelnut Toffee saved the day

Monday, December 14th, 2009

This holiday season is zipping by. I had so many ideas to bake, to make, to do, to blog. Alas, I have done none of these things. I ventured off to the Portland Crafty Wonderland yesterday to get inspired and perhaps find a few holiday presents. It was a madhouse. Great for the crafters selling their wares but completely overwhelming for me as I made myself as small as possible trying to squeeze by shoppers with big bags, crowding around little tables of handiwork. Feeling a bit like I was in a herd of craft-loving cattle, hot, and jaw open in awe at the amount of people I no longer felt like shopping. Then a sweet smell caught my attention (as well as some pleasing packaging) and that, my friend, is how Oregon Hazelnut Toffee saved the day.

Sure, I found some great stuff wandering the aisles but it was the food that made me pull some cash out of my pocket and make my first (and only) purchase of the day. Smiling happy faces handing out free samples gets me every time. Not only did it taste amazing in all of it’s sweet, salty, buttery, and nutty goodness but the packaging was perfect in a simple, natural, made in Oregon kind of way. This in itself was enough to make me buy it. However, it was the snowflake bell that made me see it in a whole new ‘perfect little gift’ light.

Local. Hand-made. Eco-friendly packaging with festive flair. Oh, and most importantly, delicious.

Thanks, Willamette Valley Confectionery, for giving me the sweet boost I needed to get through the rest of those crowded aisles of crafts and helping me cross some names off my gift list.

This year’s Weezie ornament…

santa weez and friends

weez1santa weez

Every year I make an ornament transforming our beloved furry friend, Weezie, into a holiday favorite. The first year I got a little carried away with how many I made and santa weez covered our tree. It was quite a sight! Oh what a photo, felt, chenille stems and some glitter can do! It makes us laugh every time.

Whooo’s got gift ideas?

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

I sat down to have a cup of tea and jot down a few things when I realized that sitting before me were three great gifts ideas. Especially for the owl lover! The owl mug we found at our local market but it is available online here (There is also a matching teapot and two small cups. We have that too!) Muji colored pencils are my favorite, nothing like brand new sharp colored points to get your imagination flowing, especially when it comes in great packaging.  This super cute owl journal was just sent to me as a gift. I love it! Thanks, Roz! Available at Felicity Designs 845-758-1967.

ribbons on the sparkly tree

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Ribbons. Pink. Nature. Something fun for Clementine’s first Christmas. That’s what my husband said when I asked him for some ideas for this year’s tree.

I can do that!

I didn’t want to go out and buy a bunch of stuff so I searched through the ‘magic closet’ of craft supplies and found tulle, wraphia, beads, and a sheer ribbon with flocked sparkly star-like shapes all in the same color of pinky purple. Perfect for garland! I also used this twinkling, fluffy wire I had from last year and wrapped that around the tree in a sort of twisty doodly fashion. The icy looking pink fruit-loop/life savor garland is a vintage find from a yard sale long ago. I happened to have a bunch of nests (I told you it was a magic closet!) that I made sparkly with some glitter. Snowflakes, sparkly animals and pinecones, icicles, and glittery pink balls completed the look. I draped white felt covered with sparkly white tulle around the bottom that glistens with the lights like snow in the moonlight!
