you are pretty

Love these letterpress notecards from Studio SloMo.

It’s so nice to get mail. Real handwritten mail with a stamp and a postmark. The kind where someone sat down with a pen in their hand thinking of you and actually wrote out their thoughts, maybe even crossed out a word because of a mistake. In real mail there is no spell check. There is no delete. Just pure present emotion. Now imagine getting that lovely letter and opening the envelope and seeing these three words: You are pretty.

Well, that just makes me smile right there.

It’s nice to send a compliment.

Especially on a Monday.

Before my first polaroid came the ‘picture-quick’…

Look at those great snapshots I took.

Point. Shoot. Turn the wheel. Viola.

It’s amazing I could get a frog to pose for me like that.

So much fun to go through the attic and find old toys!

upon this amazingĀ Marimekko Siirtolapuutarha red tablecloth.

Siirtolapuutarha is Finnish for ‘allotment (garden)’, appropriately naming these brightly colored graphic flowers and vegetables. Garden party anyone? Exactly what I needed to see on this dreary Portland day.

There are paper napkins in the same print, too. Imagine the sunshine bursting out of the lunch bag!

zubbles

For those of you who, like myself, have dreamed of dancing around on lush green grass with the sun shining down from the brilliant blue sky surrounded by thousands of colored bubbles…

writing in rainbows

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Last night an Oscar recipient said to his wife,

“I love you more than rainbows”.

Cute or corny?

I guess both.

It all reminded me of this pencil and the joy that comes

from writing in rainbows.

something i found

in our mailbox.

i imagined the small hands cutting out the images

and pasting them inĀ just the right spot,

standing back to admire their work

and smiling.

except i don’t know this person

or the person it’s addressed to.

they live three streets away at the same number house.

it’s probably wrong that i scanned in their mail

more wrong that i posted it

(maybe even illegal)

but it made me smile.

don’t worry.

i did deliver it to the rightful owner.

thank you, strangers, for sharing your mail.
