leapin’ lamb

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Found: Vintage little leaping lamb vase. Made in Japan.

Those big eyes, floppy ears and blushing cheeks were calling out to me through the forest of dusty bric a brac.

Don’t worry little lamb, there is room in our home amongst the other big-eyed creatures that I seem to be drawn to.

Would it be strange if I said she sort of reminded me of Clementine?

And something else. Ah yes, I’ve seen eyes like this before… thisismarybel.

thyme in the kitchen

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Found: Vintage patterned bread pan.

Too rusty to use but pretty on the eyes.

My idea: to plant it with assorted thyme and sit it on my counter top.

I love the look and fragrance of thyme.

I chose three varieties: lime, lemon and oregano.

First I put down some small stones for drainage.

Then I planted the three plants and covered the soil with a little moss.

Perfect in my kitchen until the spring when I will transfer them to the herb pot on my porch.

Found: One children’s cook book from 1951. A picture cook book!

I had to try something out of it right away. Something easy. I didn’t want to get in over my head. heehee.

So I chose…

It sounds like one of those recipes you would invent when you were little.

Before the oven.

Here it is. Peter’s Peanut -Butter Pixie. It even looks retro!

How was it?

Well, kind of like a bite size fluffernutter s’more and instead of chocolate (which would have made this oh so delish) is a cinnamon ‘cherry’ on top. Totally weird. But I like it.

Found: vintage Wee Winkie circus clock

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I found this great clock while rummaging through an antique store upstate. It still has the tag marked with it’s original price of $5.98!  I love stuff in this bright palette and the name Wee Winkie made me smile. It will look so cute hanging in Clementine’s room.

Found: A stack of vintage cardboard and feather ‘headdresses’.

I like how they look all lined up with their hot pick and turquoise feathers.

Hmmm. What will I do with them?

Our friends found this while ‘junking’ in Wisconsin. They immediately thought of Clementine.

What a great find!

Thanks guys!

bingo2Found these great B I N G O play cards this weekend. Not quite sure what we’ll do with them yet.  Most likely they will be hung somehow as a collection on the wall. Otherwise we’re all set for a Bingo party.

Dinner to go

picnic-to-go

No, it’s not a take-out box. It’s a vintage picnic ‘box’ with a feature that really sets it apart from your standard  picnic basket…

picnic-all-set-up

Open it up, unpack your stuff, unfold the legs and now you’ve got yourself a table!

picnic-have-a-seatWe found this gem at a yard sale in upstate New York. I love the red faux crocodile. The legs and sides are aluminum with a bakelite handle. On the inside there are thick elastics to keep your picnic gear in place. It actually came with red plates and old red handled silverware. What a score! They just don’t make stuff like this anymore.

We just packed up a simple dinner of  pan fried chicken (which tastes good at room temperature), a nice mixed salad with olives, sweet peppers, avocado, carrots, celery, baby heirloom lettuces, and onion, and a side of marinated mini mozzarella balls with roasted tomatoes.

Pack up your basket, your bag, whatever…just take it outside!
